Accident Investigation

Marine accidents and incidents can occur without warning. Understanding their causes is essential for implementing preventive measures and ensuring safety. Skilled investigators play a crucial role in analyzing the sequence of events leading to an accident or incident and identifying the necessary safety measures. The Accident and Incident Investigation Course meets international training standards for Shipboard Safety Officers, as specified in the STCW Code Table A-II/2 and A-III/3, IMO Model 3.11, and the Code of Safe Working Practice (MCA).

Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will have the expertise to conduct comprehensive investigations into marine casualties and incidents, following internationally recognized standards and best practices.

  • Learn the IMO Code for investigating marine casualties and interviewing techniques.
  • Recognize the human factors that must be considered during an investigation.
  • Master investigation procedures.
  • Develop techniques for collecting, analyzing, and reporting information about accidents.
