ICE Navigation Course
The Ice Navigation Course aims to enable safe navigation of vessels in icy conditions by providing an understanding of the unique environment and ship handling techniques required. The course also covers the human factors influencing navigator performance in such conditions.

- ● Regulatory Framework: Familiarization with regulations from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Code, MARPOL, and the Polar Code.
- ● Formation of Ice: Learning about the formation of ice, including different types of ice formations.
- ● Ice Detection: Recognizing signs of ice and utilizing ice detection methods and technologies.
- ● Ice Charts: Interpretation of ice charts to plan safe navigation routes.
- ● Ice Classes: Understanding the classification systems for ships operating in ice-covered waters.
- ● Stability Criteria: Knowledge of stability criteria specific to ice-class vessels.
- ● Ship Requirements: Understanding the requirements for ships operating in icy conditions and the process of winterization.
- ● Icebreakers: Understanding the role of icebreakers and procedures for seeking assistance in icy waters.
- ● Safe Practices: Implementing safe working practices during ice navigation to minimize risks to personnel and the vessel.
- ● Human Factors: Understanding the effects of cold conditions on personnel and their performance, and implementing measures to mitigate risks.
